There is around 1,200 new homes built across the region each year and forecasts show the market needs to double in size to accommodate the growth of the region.

The Highland Council has a positive planning framework for new residential development and the development plans generally identify generous amounts of land. The Inner Moray Firth Local Development Plan 2 (IMFLDP2) covers the most populated part of Highland and allocates land to accommodate almost 18,519 new homes. The Caithness and Sutherland Local Development Plan (CaSPlan) allocates land for over 1,281 new homes and West Highland and Islands Local Development Plan (WestPlan) allocates land for 3,245 new homes.
