Sustainable Tourism
The Highlands is the backbone of
Scotland’s booming tourism industry
with over 9.4 million visitors in 2024,
it’s full of opportunities.
The growth of tourism in Highland over recent times has been remarkable. It has become a must-see destination which draws millions of visitors each year from across the world to experience its stunning natural beauty, rich heritage, diverse leisure, sporting and cultural attractions, delicious food and drink, and famous warmth and generosity. New draws such as the North Coast 500 route and the ‘Outlander effect’ join established attractions such as the Isle of Skye and Loch Ness, putting the Highlands on the world’s bucket list.
There are lots of new projects in the pipeline which will help to improve the tourist offer. For example, The Inverness Castle Experience, opened in February 2026, is a £34 million transformation of the existing castle buildings and esplanade gardens to a dedicated visitor centre which celebrates what makes the Highlands of Scotland a special place to live, work and visit.
However, there is far more to the Highlands with huge economic potential for existing businesses and inward investment in the sector, with particular opportunities in high quality, cultural and authentic experiences.
If you have a sustainable business or leisure tourism project in mind, we’ll help you invest, set up and succeed in Scotland.
